Applications

For coal bed methane (CBM), the EMS^® method can be used for the production of surface discharge-quality water under even the most stringent environmental guidelines. The HWPT EMS^®-CBM method is designed to minimize the production of salty or carbonaceous and coal-fines contaminated water, often to the degree that only a few percent of the feed water needs to be disposed of as contaminated waste water. HWPT has developed modular designs for the treatment of CBM waters to make the equipment flexible to the long-term needs of gas-field development.

The hydrocarbon and suspended-solids-contaminated waters typically produced by oil and gas field well-bores can be EMS^® treated to recover potable water. The clean water produced in the field is valuable both because the EMS^® water is generated in the immediate area of its next use (e.g., as drilling fluid, etc.) and because the water displaces an otherwise consumptive use of local supplies.
